In 1907, commercial artist George Earl Buzza (1883-1957) founded the Buzza Company in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Initially the firm concentrated on college posters, but quickly expanded into the production of stationery, bridge and greeting cards, fashion prints, and framed gift mottos.
The company's claim to fame lies with the framed gift Buzza mottos - spelled mottoes by the company - produced by the Buzza Company from 1918 to 1942. Rather than a paper greeting card that would be read, then tossed, the firm's sentimental gift mottos could be hung on a wall and be a permanent reminder of the sender.
The colorful framed prints were known for their accompanying sentimental and inspirational thoughts, quotes, and verses. Themes included friendship, home, love, motherhood, perseverance, anniversaries, hospitality, sports, and religion.
