BEAUCE art, pottery fondue dishes, set of 4, green yellow tones, Quebec Canada
The "Paysan" is the first complete tableware service created by the artisans of Ceramique de Beauce around 1949, based on white clay. From 1963, the glazes of Raymond Lewis ensure a new popularity that will go until the 70s.
Despite its name, this series is clearly in line with the style "Streamline Moderne", a late version of Art Deco, harmoniously mixing straight lines and curves.
Founded in 1940 with support from the provincial government, the Syndicat des céramistes paysans de la Beauce (Union of Farmers ceramists of Beauce) aimed to counter the rural exodus by offering farmers a ceramist formation. This effort was inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement. The Beauce, a region south of Quebec City, offered a quality raw material. Raymond Lewis is one of the masters-ceramists who will guide the style of the early years of the company.
This set is in a beautiful vintage condition. No chips or cracks. Note that it's not recommended to put these plates in the dishwasher. Their age requires precautions in use.
