A landmark of Beaux-Arts architecture, the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building has been the Library’s home since its dedication in 1911. Designed by architects John Merven Carrère and Thomas Hastings, it houses outstanding research collections in the humanities and social sciences, standing for more than a century as an emblem of access to knowledge for all.
The elegant and intricate illustration was created by architecture firm Beyer Blinder Belle, who in collaboration with Mecanoo developed restoration and renovation plans to prepare the Schwarzman Building for another century of serving the public while maintaining its architectural integrity and complementing existing historic spaces such as the landmarked Rose Main Reading Room, the Maps, Periodicals, and Genealogy reading rooms, and Astor Hall.
Carry the majesty of the library everywhere with this roomy tote bag.
