vintage metal savings bank (also known as a coin bank or piggy bank) from a historical Canadian institution.
The French inscription on the bank's front reads:
LA BANQUE D'ÉPARGNE DE LA CITÉ ET DU DISTRICT DE MONTRÉAL
This translates to:
THE SAVINGS BANK OF THE CITY AND DISTRICT OF MONTREAL
The word "MONNAIE" (meaning "COIN" or "MONEY") is also visible near the top slot where coins would be inserted.
This bank was a promotional item likely given to customers of what is now known as Laurentian Bank of Canada (Banque Laurentienne du Canada). The institution was originally founded in 1846 as The Montreal City and District Savings Bank (or La Banque d'Épargne de la Cité et du District de Montréal in French).
It is opened but can not be locked as the key is missing that can probably be done at a local locksmith
