A Beyer and Bock tea set made in Volkstedt, Germany in the 1930s in their "Melatin" line. The set includes a small teapot, 2 creamers, a sugar bowl, side plate and teacup and saucer pair. The pieces are silver in color and have no chips, cracks or crazing but there is wear of the silvering.
The auctioneer told me, after I bought the set, that they had been brought to Montreal by a Jewish family when they fled Germany just before the second World War. The family never used the set after their escape but kept it as a memento instead. Unfortunately the family line died out and there was no one left to inherit the set.
The tea pot stands 6" to the top of the lid and is 3" across between the handle and spout.
The saucer is 5 7/8" wide.
The cup is 2 1/4" tall with mouth that is 4" in diameter.
The larger creamer is 3" tall and 3" wide without the handle.
The smaller creamer is 2 1/4" tall and 2 1/2" wide without the handle.
The sugar bowl is 3" wide between the handles and is 2 1/8" tall without the lid.
The side plate is 7 3/4" across.
