Blue Mountain Pottery, which opened in 1947 is named after a popular ski hill in Collingwood Ontario Canada.l, near Georgian Bay.
Unfortunately the company closed in 2004. They made a variety of pottery from the red clay found in the area.
There were bowls, platters, cookie jars, jugs, vases, tea sets, animals, birds and even sea creatures made in different glaze colors.
The "slate" glaze is a result of Blue Mountain Pottery's trademarked reflowing decorating technique, where light and dark glazes were applied and then fused in the kiln, creating unique, streaked patterns on each piece.
The color is a mix of grey, often with streaks of other colors like black, blue, or brown, depending on the specific piece and firing.
