Vintage Bohemian Niagara Series Amber & Green Sommerso Czech Art Glass Bowl – Karel Zemek for Mstisov Glassworks, Karlovarske Sklo, Moser – Hand-Blown Centerpiece
This stunning mid-century Bohemian glass bowl is a prime example of Czech hand-blown art glass from the 'Niagara' series, designed by Karel Zemek for Mstisov Glassworks, later associated with Karlovarské Sklo/Moser in the 1960s. It features a rich amber-to-green color transition encased in a clear outer layer, characteristic of the Sommerso technique. The freeform, asymmetrical shape with a winged design, smooth polished base with no pontil mark, and minor natural bubbles confirm its artisanal craftsmanship. These features distinguish it from Murano or Viking Glass, which lack this distinctive layered transparency.
As seen in the provided image, the amber-to-green transition is smooth yet distinct, a hallmark of the Sommerso technique. The colors layer gracefully within the clear casing, creating depth and dimension without an abrupt separation.
