Bone China Saucer&3 Coasters 2000 Millennium Hannah Dipper Royal Burlington 1998

Vintage set of a saucer and three coasters, dedicated to the transition from the first millennium to the second. The tableware was designed by ceramist Hanna Dipper for Royal Burlington in 1998. The artist depicted what, in her opinion, most clearly reflects the dynamics of the ending millennium. As the man of the millennium, Hannah portrayed Albert Einstein (with which we agree). The dishes are made in gray-blue dusty tones and are bordered with silvery stripes. Saucer measures approx 6" (15.5 cm) in diameter. Coasters measures 3" (7.5 cm) in diameter. Cymbals are in very good vintage condition with minimal loss of silver. No chips, scratches or cracks. A bit of information. At the end of the first millennium, many people feared a global technological catastrophe. Her expectations are easy to understand. Computers were programmed to represent dates in just two numbers. So when the year 2000 comes, computers will update the date from "99" to "00" - and the automated world will be in 1900. Then there will be a worldwide failure of all systems with unexpected consequences. Fortunately, none of this happened, but some problems were still fixed: - In Australia, the bus ticket printing machine did it wrong; - In Italy, some prisoners received another hundred years in prison (of course, this mistake was quickly corrected); - Police breathalyzers stopped working in Hong Kong; - Around the world, cash registers failed and showed the year 1900.
