This is a bookend or font that was made by JB Hirsch's back in the 1930s. It features a figure of a girl holding a purse, made of French Bronze (an alloy) with an ivorine face. The figure stands atop a black and white marble base with a depression in it. Hirsch was known for bookends; I am not sure what the depression is for, whether it is a mini key basket or even a font for holy water (though I would expect a religious figure in that case). The figure and base are in excellent shape but the figure has come somewhat loose (you can see the piece of cardboard I put in to straighten it in the pictures). There is a nut on the bottom to tighten it but I was unable to do so, it being stuck and myself worrying that I might break a 90 year old screw or nut.
The base is 5" by 4" by 1" tall and the figure itself is 4 3/4" tall.
