Wearable Art! This is a Boro inspired Kimono made entirely from clothing scraps that I pulled out of a bag headed for the landfill. Boro (meaning tattered) is a Japanese patchwork that throughout history was done out of necessity. When a kimono or bedding started to run thin in a certain area, the family’s women patched it with a small piece of scrap fabric using sashiko stitching. The OG's of upcycle. I tried to keep as true to Boro, including the Sashiko stitching with a modern twist of intentional fabric manipulation on the denim, and added some nice big pockets! Mixed fabrics of cotton, bamboo, silk, denim and blends. Model session will be posted soon, and then this beauty is going up for sale. Size: Large/XL (approx ladies 10-16). Because there are multiple layers of fabric, there is some weight to the garment, could be used in Spring/Fall wardrobe as a light/medium coat. in the traditional sense of the kimono this is a female garment...but looks great on men too as modelled by my husband at Vancouver Fashion Week Style Tags: vintage, handmade, Anthropologie, Free People, rare, pockets, kimono, robe, coat, patchwork
