“Genuine leather is naturally breathable, keeping feet cool, dry, and odor-free.”
How to tell if it genuine leather?
1. Texture and Grain:
• Genuine leather has a natural, irregular grain with slight imperfections (pores, wrinkles, or subtle variations).
• Run your fingers over the surface: real leather feels soft, warm, and slightly uneven, while synthetic leather feels smoother, more uniform, and plastic-like.
2. Smell Test:
• Genuine leather has a distinct, rich, organic smell (like a leather jacket or car interior).
• Synthetic leather often smells chemical or plastic-like.
3. Water Drop Test (if safe for your shoes):
• Place a small drop of water on an inconspicuous area. Genuine leather absorbs water slowly, leaving a temporary dark spot, as it’s porous. Synthetic leather repels water, causing it to bead up or slide off.
4. Edge Inspection:
• Check the cut edges of the leather (e.g., around seams or the tongue). Genuine leather looks fibrous and slightly rough, like natural hide. Synthetic leather often has a uniform, plastic-like edge or a fabric backing.
5. Flex Test:
• Bend or press the material. Genuine leather creases naturally with fine, irregular wrinkles. Synthetic leather may feel stiffer, and creases may look more uniform or artificial.
