This decorative little vintage heart-shaped glass dish is the iconic Canadian Hughes 'Cornflower' design cutting on Imperial Glass' 'Candlewick' patterned glass.
‘Candlewick’ was named after a type of colonial needlework that made embroidered patterns using small knots of coarse thread – a nod to the little knots of glass on the edge of the pieces. It was Imperial’s most popular pattern, and it was produced continuously from 1937 until the factory closed in the 1980’s. The Hughes Company purchased most of their glass from the US, and Imperial’s ‘Candlewick’ also proved one of the most popular lines for them.
This little dish is approximately 5 ½ inches at its widest, and about 2 ½ inched deep. It is in excellent condition, without cracks, chips, scratches, or any other damage or defect.
A great stuffer for that Christmas stocking?
(The white marks in our picture are reflections due to our lack of photo skills, and not any defect in the glass.)
