I believe this was originally designed to be a portable ashtray. That's why it has a little fold-out resting place for a cigarette. 🚬 I wouldn't dream of ruining such a pretty piece with ashes, though!

@sherlocat Thanks for sharing ❤️🥰😍 Everyone I talked to agreed that it was a pill box but the pull out was always a wonder. I agree, I would never want ashes in this either. It is so cute.

@styleromp - You're welcome. I saw this other listing for two items that also have the same handle and folding rest, and the title says 'antique ashtrays' - that's why I realised yours was the same thing.
