...sleeve monogram FJC
An old mens´ travel grooming kit, these sets were THE thing to have back in the day, to store your clothing brushes, comb, toothbrush, powders, razor, shaving cream (in stick form) etc safely away in your suitcase. This one would date ca 1930s or perhaps earlier, and it comes with a pair of brushes, a hair comb, 3 metal storage tubes, a razor and a mirror. The razor is marked "made in England", as is the comb.
The board to which these items are held in place is removable from the leather sleeve and can be popped open like an easel, so you can use the mirror hands-free. The wooden brushes are lovingly made and have little brass screws to the top. The container tubes look to be chrome plated.
The leather zip-around sleeve is monogrammed FJC to the front and marked F.J. Chaston on the back in gilt lettering - which would have been the previous owner. The case is unmarked for a country, but the zipper is marked ZaZ / British.
Condition: with a couple of the original storage pieces missing from the sleeves - likely a toothbrush tube and perhaps a straight razor or nail file? The leather sleeve with wear, mostly around the edges and some pressure marks, but fully functional.
Size: 11 x 7 x 2 inches (28 x 17.5 x 5 cm)
* The only F J Chaston I could locate online was a private in WWI in the 36th Battalion, who went missing and was later declared "killed in the field" by HQ in 1917*
