This is a good condition, royal Canadian mint silver medallion from the 1988 Winter Olympics hosted in Calgary, featuring a speed skater rendered by Friedrich Peter. Comes with a green felt case featuring the Olympic logo, a numbered and signed certificate of authenticity, as well as a green plastic hard shell case. Medallion itself also has a round case and is about 1.5" in diameter. Could use a slight polish (I will leave that to professionals), but otherwise in great condition. Includes very rare case.
Starting in 1985, the Federal Government, under the leadership of then-Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, issued a ten coin set to help finance and commemorate the Olympic games. Each coins would feature a $20 face value. These coins were issued in Proof quality only, and were sold with the partnership of the Royal Bank of Canada. Mintage was limited to 5,000,000 coins and this would mark the first time that any silver coin had edge lettering on it. Said lettering was 'XV OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES - JEUX D'OLYMPIQUES D'HIVER'.
