Charles Alexander Couper Oil Painting Tucson Az Foothills 12"x16"

As seen in photos, 12"x16" unframed oil painting by Charles Alexander Couper. Couper was born in Portsmouth, N.H. on Feb. 19, 1924. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in Europe, Africa and the Middle East as a staff sergeant and radio operator for the 715th Bomb Squadron of the Army Air Corps. He earned numerous medals including the Bronze Star. Couper studied fine art at the Vesper George School of Art in Boston and subsequently taught there. He spent summers studying with Henry Hensche at the Cape Cod School of Art in Provincetown. Couper studied at the Joseph Butera School of Art in Boston, and became a private student of the esteemed Ernest L. Major. He also taught at the Swain School of Design in New Bedford. The French arts Magazine La Revue Moderne compared Charles’s allegorical paintings to the melancholy moods of the poet Baudelaire. He won two first jury awards from the Cape Cod Art Association, and both an award of distinction and a first jury award from the Pastel Society of Canada. His work is in numerous public collections including the American Museum Photo Archives and the Smithsonian. He has since passed away in Nova Scotia where he resided before his death.
