This antique Chinese porcelain statue features Budai, the "Laughing Buddha." This hand-painted piece dates to the Chinese Republic period (c. 1912-1949) and was crafted for export.
The statue depicts a cheerful Budai with a large belly and smile, symbolizing happiness and good fortune. He is surrounded by five children, representing a happy family.
Decorated in a Famille Rose palette, the figurine features shades of pink, yellow, blue, and iron-red enamels. The base bears an antique red "CHINA" stamp, used on export porcelain from this era, as well as impressed potter's marks.
Condition: This is an antique piece sold in "as-is" condition. One of the small children on the Buddha's left shoulder is missing a face. This damage is visible in the photos. Otherwise, the statue shows age-appropriate wear to the enamel but has no other visible chips or cracks. Please review all images carefully.
Dimensions: Approximately 6.5 inches tall.
This Chinese antique is an example of early 20th-century ceramic art. Despite the noted flaw, it remains a display piece for any collection of Asian art, Oriental decor, or Chinoiserie interiors. #antique #chinoiserie #asianart #buddha #famillerose #porcelain
