Characters: The white figure is "Salty" (the salt shaker), and the black figure is "Pep" (the pepper shaker). They were created as part of an advertising campaign for Knorr Sidekicks (a line of packaged rice and pasta side dishes).
Advertising Campaign: The campaign focused on Knorr reducing the sodium in its Sidekicks products. The character Salty was the mascot for the original, higher-sodium product, and he was depicted in commercials as being sad or "lost" because his high-salt days were over. The commercials, which featured the song "How Am I Supposed To Live Without You," were quite popular.
Release: The ceramic shaker set, approximately 10 cm tall, as indicated in your photo, was produced as a mail-in premium item offered to consumers who purchased Knorr Sidekicks products. They were a highly successful promotional item, with 30,000 sets selling out quickly around 2010.
These figures are a collectible piece of advertisement
The white shaker, wearing a green shirt with an 'S' on it, typically holds salt. 🧂
The black shaker, also in a green shirt but with a 'P' on it, typically holds pepper.
