This is " Conversational Chinese with Grammatical Notes" by Teng Ssu-Yu published by The University of Chicago Press in 1947. This is a First Edition, first printing. It is a red cloth bound hardcover book with black lettering on the cover and spine. 441 pages.
This teaches the standard form of Mandarin spoken in Peiping and contains both Chinese characters and Romanized phonetic spellings. It covers pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary lists , etc. In the back of the book is an Index of Characters and Phrases as well as a General Index.
This book is in very good condition. There is wear, discoloration, and sun tanning on the covers and spine along with bumped corners. There is a small name and date inside the front cover. The pages are very clean with some tidy notes in the first 70 pages and slight yellowing throughout. The binding is good and tight. There is no dust jacket. Please see the photos.
