The Crown Mason Jars are a significant part of Canadian canning history, but they are no longer manufactured in Canada today.
Here's a breakdown of their history:
Vintage Canadian-Made Jars:
The Crown brand, along with other Canadian canning jars like Gem and Jewel, were made in Canada by various glass companies over the years. The primary manufacturer for a long period was the Dominion Glass Company (Domglas), which existed from 1913 until at least 1995.
Unique Canadian Size: These Canadian-made jars were unique, especially in Western Canada, for having a slightly different mouth size (78mm) than the standard North American "regular" or "wide" mouth jars.
End of Production: The production of the Crown jars, as well as the accompanying 78mm lids, was discontinued in the late 1990s or early 2000s.
