Here is a set of 4 Denby Arabesque stoneware egg cups. The short, sturdy design with a rounded interior and hole through the bottom is practical as well as durable.
They are in excellent condition.
Originally Arabesque started as a small set of gift ware designed by Gill Pemberton
after a trip to Russia with her husband in 1962 that inspired the idea for the ochre red and golden hand painted floral decoration on a semi-matte deep brown glaze which she developed further. The design for Arabesque was bound to become a cultural icon of the 1960’s and 1970’s and continued in production for almost 20 years.
The Denby Arabesque design would have to be one of the 20th Centuries greatest dinnerware designs. Unlike many other dinnerware and production designs of this era Gill actually designed all the forms and the patterns – including the ergonomics of the handles and shape of the dinner plates.
