Nahui Ollin bag brought from London, UK. World just handful of time
Background on the Nahui Ollin brand:
The colorful eco-chic handbags made of recycled Mexican foil food wrappers and labels are so cool, it’s a guarantee that strangers will want to talk to you. Nahui Ollin, the namesake of the Aztec calendar’s “sun of movement” and nom de guerre of Carmen Mondragón, a progressive Mexican poet and painter from the 1920s and ’30s, is the brainchild of founder Olga Abadi, a Districto Federal native. She discovered the bags, originally made of trash and with origins in an ancient Mayan weaving technique, at a flea market in Mexico.
“They are virtually indestructible,” says co-founder of Gathering of the Goddesses Debbie Mishler. “A lot of what you’re seeing would end up in a landfill. People don’t understand why they’re so durable, and I say, ‘That’s why they don’t go in a landfill because they never breakdown.”
