Don Lancaster is a well-known Northwest Coast jewellery maker. Both he and his brother, John, have developed a distinctive style for which they are widely recognized.
His family crests are the Sun, Sisiutl (double-headed sea serpent) and the Wolf.
Lancaster currently lives in Victoria, BC with his family where he is involved with the Kwakwaka’wakw community. He works in a shared studio space with other First Nations artists which allow them to share equipment and exchange ideas.
Lancaster has been designing jewelry since 1997 and is currently working full time making silver and gold work. His jewelry can be found in galleries around BC.
Raven is one of the most recognized figures in Northwest Coast art and oral tradition. Viewed oftentimes as a transformer and a trickster, Raven is the hero of many adventures such as the release of light into the world and the discovery of mankind. As a trickster figure, Raven can be celebrated for his cleverness, wit, and mischievous nature. In some oral traditions, Raven possesses the ability to shape-shift and is often depicted with a sense of humor and playfulness. Raven is identified by a thick, straight beak and the lack of plumage or horns on the head. Oftentimes, Raven will be depicted with a ball of light in his beak.
This cuff bracelet is 1/4” wide and would fit a small / medium sized wrist.
