Originally gifted to Wallis Simpson by Prince Edward in 1935, the Prince of Wales Brooch holds significant historical value, symbolizing his royal status and commitment to her as the heir to the throne. The brooch features three elegantly pave-set diamond feathers accentuated by baguette-cut diamonds, all gathered together by a crown, set in platinum and 18k gold.
After the Duchess of Windsor's passing, the Prince of Wales Brooch was purchased by the legendary Elizabeth Taylor at a Sotheby’s auction for over $623,000. Taylor, who shared a friendship with the Duke and Duchess, had admired the brooch during her visits and intended to acquire it for sentimental reasons, particularly as a tribute to her late husband, Richard Burton, who was born in Wales. Remarkably, this was the first significant piece of jewelry she ever bought for herself.
Upon Elizabeth Taylor's death in 2011, the Prince of Wales Brooch was sold again at Christie’s auction for an impressive $1,314,500, further cementing its legacy.
