Tokio Kumagai was born in Sendai, Japan in 1947. After graduating in 1970 from the Bunka Fukuso Gakuin, the Japanese college of design, Kumagai went to Paris.
Throughout the 70s and 80s, he designed for a number of companies, notably CASTELBAJAC, Rodier and Pierre d'Alby in France and FIORUCCI in Italy. He was well known for his elaborate, surrealist shoe creations, some of which are on display in shoe museums around the world.
Here is a RARE piece - a pristine brown with white pinstripes, structured '80s shoulders, hourglass fitting blazer.
Expertly crafted from a gorgeous suiting fabric consisting of rayon (76%), wool (20%) & polyurethane (11%).
This blazer is zippered at the front and accentuated by 6 non-working double breasted buttons. There are wide, black elasticized bands on either side which create a beautifully fitted waistline. 2 flap pockets situated beneath the bands, low at the hips.
This looks so complimentary when worn! It is a timeless designer treasure, an unmistakably fine, luxurious, super cool piece!
