TITLE: Success is a Job in New York: The Early Art & Business of Andy Warhol
SYNOPSIS:
"Success is a Job in New York" was an exhibition devoted to the “pre•Pop” years in Andy Warhol’s art. Presented by the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain in 1990, it took a look back at the evolution of Warhol’s career as a designer and artist, from the training he had in his native town of Pittsburgh to his commercial success as an artist in New York. The catalog published to accompany the exhibition explores an intriguing period in this history of 20th•century commercial art. By looking back at the early stages of the artist’s career, his training, illustrations, and “pre•Pop” photos, it also presents the major New York art directors, creative studios, and advertising creation techniques of the 1950s.
