Egyptian Scarab Beetle Decor

Vintage Egyptian Scarab Beetle carved from a solid piece of stone or marble (not verified) w/detailed Hieroglyphics. Scarab has carved figures and other writings on the base with a hole carved through the middle. The scarab beetle was revered as a symbol of the sun god and rebirth. In Times Past Small Scarabs were buried with mummies and carved from valuable stones. The Egyptians worshiped scarabs as symbols of immortality because they entered the ground and later emerged again as if resurrected. I believe this was an imported item and perhaps meant to be a paperweight. I found a similar scarab listing that stated it had been purchased in Thebes between 1975 and 1985.
