His artistic-functional glass items have been sold in galleries stretching from Western Europe to Japan and Hong Kong. As a young boy growing up in Borlesti, a village in Northwest Romania, Ion was influenced by the simplicity of rural life as well as the artisans in the local studios. The beautiful sunflowers and acacia trees of Transylvania were as much a part of his childhood as the mines and factories of pre-revolutionary Romania. This combination of traditionalism and modernism is evident in Ion's works of today; inspired by the old ways, he breaks through this realm into a new and ever innovative world of glass art.
