A lovely Franklin Library edition of Faust.
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's *Faust* stands as one of literature's most ambitious and enduring masterpieces—a sweeping drama that grapples with humanity's deepest questions about knowledge, desire, and redemption. The story follows Dr. Heinrich Faust, a brilliant but tormented scholar who, dissatisfied with the limits of human learning, makes a fateful pact with the devil Mephistopheles. In exchange for his soul, Faust gains supernatural powers and experiences that take him from his scholar's study to the heights of political power, from tragic romance to mystical revelation.
Part philosophical treatise, part poetic drama, *Faust* weaves together themes of ambition and corruption, love and loss, science and faith. Through Faust's journey—his seduction of the innocent Gretchen, his pursuit of classical beauty with Helen of Troy, and his final grandiose schemes—Goethe explores what it means to be human in a world where infinite desire meets finite existence.
Faust - Goethe. Translated by George Madison Priest. Illustrations - Engelbert Siebertz.

Hardcover. Approx 6x9in. 415pp. Gilt on left side of spine is worn off; gilt on back has some worn sections. There's a little discoloration on a few page sides near the beginning --see photo. Otherwise in good shape. In terms of binding and paper quality this thing is a beast like all Franklins, and will probably last a hundred years.
