First Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding The first edition this of the popular Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam with illustrations tipped in by Mabel Eardley-Wilmot. Collated, complete with thirty-eight pictures from photographs in black and white tipped in. A selection of quatrains translated to English from the original Persian. It became popular by the later half of the nineteenth century, and was published in over one hundred editions, inspiring other translations to English and many other languages. This edition was rendered into English by Edward Fitzgerald, who first proposed a translation in 1859.
