In this glossy, oversized book Spada traces the transformation of Jane Fonda from the sex kitten of the 1960s to the fine, serious actress of the 1980s, paralleling her personal change from protected Hollywood child to controversial political activist. The sympathetic but not totally uncritical portrait that Spada draws is revealing and believable. Like his treatment of Marilyn Monroe and others, this is well written and researched. The many photographs reveal as much as the text. Sure to please fans, this could be an eye-opener to those who still denounce Fonda for her activities during the Vietnam War.
