Authentic Nelson clock originally designed for Howard Miller and produced by Vitra Design Museum. One of the few woman-designed Nelson clocks, all of which are icons of mid-century modern design. Floor model purchased from Design Within Reach in Toronto in 2021. Needs a tune up! All images except the last one of the clock on the wall are of the actual clock I am selling. Up close images should patina on brass and minor wear on back side of clock face.
Dimensions are 13½" H 30" W 2⅞" D
Materials: Various woods and metals. High-grade quartz clock-work, requires a 1.5 volt battery.
More details on the history of this fabulous MCM timepiece from the Design Within Reach website: The Nelson Eye Clock (1957) is one of more than 150 clocks designed by George Nelson Associates for the Howard Miller Clock Company, which sold them from 1949 into the 1980s. Nelson Associates, first launched as a studio by George Nelson in 1947 in New York City, employed some of the most celebrated designers of the time, including Irving Harper, Don Chadwick and John Pile, all of whom contributed to the clocks. Until its closure in the mid-1980s, the company designed a range of products for many clients, including Herman Miller, Inc., The Eye Clock, was designed by Lucia DeRespinis, now a professor at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY and the only woman industrial designer employed by Nelson.
