Growing Up Skipper Vintage Mattel Doll Working Condition- With Outfit- 9"- 1975
.
The "Growing Up Skipper" doll was released by Mattel in 1975. It was controversial because rotating the doll's arm made her grow an inch taller and caused small breasts to appear on her rubber torso, a feature intended to show her maturing from a child to a teenager.
Key Details:
Year: 1975
Purpose: To show Skipper maturing from a younger girl to a teenager.
Gimmick: The doll could "grow" taller and develop small breasts by rotating her arm.
Controversy: The feature was criticized for sexualizing a pre-teen character and was a significant talking point in newspapers.
