Stunning vintage decorative plate, commemorating the visit of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth to the USA and Canada in May 1939. It was a special visit for several reasons; it was the first time that a reigning monarch visited Canada, the first time that a British monarch had ever visited the United States, and occurred despite the political turmoil happening overseas at the time (WWII was declared only a few months following the trip). An incredible souvenir for fans of the British monarchy - this would look lovely displayed on a mantel, cabinet, or wall!
The text reads: “LONG MAY THEY REIGN. To commemorate the visit of their magesties King George VI and Queen Elizabeth to Canada and the United States of America - May 1939”
This plate is in excellent shape - no chips, cracks, crazing stains, or wear of the photo, writing, or gilt. It is approximately 22 x 22 cm (9 x 9 inches).
