Purchased by my aunt in Africa when she taught there in the 60s, this 18" necklace features an elephant pendant of about 2", and another 10 elephants, around an inch long, interspersed with like-coloured round beads. I think the material is bone, but it may be resin. The piece is in great shape, and the screw together closure works well. I have a lion necklace of similar design.

This necklace is a twin to one my mom got from my grandmother when she travelled to Africa as a Gideon. It’s made from an elephant’s ivory. FYI- It is illegal to sell vintage ivory jewelry in Canada if the item dates post 1989 when ivory became outlawed. As long as it was originally purchased prior to that date then your piece would be grandfathered.

@montgomerymoo thanks it definitely predates the ivory ban but I didn’t think it was ivory! I’ll look further into it.
