myclosetmuse @abeille224, The hem is cut a bit shorter in the front. The black you see is the lining from the inside back of the dress. Take a peek at the second photo - you can get a sense of it on the model - the front is a bit shorter. I would have measured on the front to the side - from top of shoulder to hem - I can double check if you like.

myclosetmuse @abeille224, hi there! Apologies for the delay once again - the front of the dress measures 36-37 inches (it has folds of fabric in the front so it kind of shifts and changes). I measured from the top of the shoulder to the front hem. I'm 5'8.5" and would have worn it with a jacket and tights to work - but workplaces vary, I know. Let me know if you have any other questions!
