Turquerie was the Turkish fashion in Western Europe from the 16th to 18th centuries for imitating aspects of Ottoman art and culture.This wonderful scarf is paying hommage to painter Jean-François de Troy ....a French Rococo painter known for his scenes of the life of the upper class and aristocracy,. He lived his life in Rome ...so this is probably why it shows St. Peters Square as the scarf's centrepiece.. The detail of the people and fashions of the day are just wonderful..
