gemgirlkate @flowergirl64, love your barrage of questions! A) I don't travel as much as I'd like; hope to do more as time goes on. I am, however, going to Oregon next week for a seminar and plan to mine for Sunstone while there. B) I have a network of "dealers" who travel & buy good gems, and I buy from them. Most times, they have great quality & can tell me exactly what mine, in which country stuff originated. I like knowing the history of the stones I cut. C) Yes, I know an aweful lot about Alexandrite! Right now, fine cut natural is worth more per carat than diamond. Very hard to get rough. I have cut synthetic - much more affordable, and easy to get in large pieces. gemgirlkate Hmmm...I have never come by any Coral to cut, but would be open to do it. I do know that it is a very soft material to work on and would require a delicate touch...I have cut Calcite & Flourite, and they are the same hardness. Stuff like that is typically cabochon-cut (domed) or carved. If you facet it, it abrades very easily. Faceted pieces that soft are done mostly for "collections" and they do not get put into jewelry or worn. Does that help?

gemgirlkate @h3ll0k1tty3825, I took a look. There's no way you'll get that for it. The stone is windowed and cut crookedly on the pavilion. Do you buy these from Home Shopping Network or JTV? That's the quality I see from the pics - not top grade gems, even if you paid a lot. Sorry if you're unhappy with that. If you don't like the honesty, don't advertise on my feed.

gemgirlkate @h3ll0k1tty3825, sorry for making that assumption. If your stone is truly dazzling, the photos definitely do not do it justice. Most jewelers overprice raw stones, so as soon as you buy from them, you can never get that amount back. I try to keep mine reasonable, and have a 33% off sale right now (a pre-moving sale). jo_lushie Hi again, sorry for all the questions. How do I get GIA certificates for my gems? I don't have any GIA graduates in my city and I tried their website but they are only taking rubies, emeralds and diamonds at the moment. Do you certify gems? What are your rates?

gemgirlkate @h3ll0k1tty3825, no problem. Dialogue is the whole point of being able to message! An official GIA cert only comes from a GIA Lab and is abt $85-$120, depending on type of stone. Any Graduate Gemologist can prepare their own paperwork, and they are permitted to use their GIA G.G. title, but not the GIA logo. I do this and charge $60/stone. A statement of value is typically not included in these reports, but I can add a retail price range statement and source for $20/stone.

gemgirlkate @cutehosiery thank you! I've been debating listing some of my jewelry here...my only beef is that PM takes such a high percentage that I'd probably have to raise my prices to recoup my cost to make it. Guess I need to look into that.
