Horn pendant carved in stone on pretty sterling chain

In many parts of Italy, there is a long held belief that the chilli-pepper shaped horn - or cornicello - protects against the evil eye - or malocchio. It is popular to wear cornicello jewelry crafted of precious metals, coral or red stone. I believe this 1-3/4-inch long pendant is made of red jasper or jade. It is unmarked. I've hung it from a 17-inch chain interspersed with beads, marked 925, for sterling silver. All in great condition.
