Berta Hummel was born in Massing in Upper Bavaria in the year 1909. Already in her early youth she gave evidence of great artistic talent for painting, with which characteristic qualities were apparent from the beginning. In order to undergo artistic training she became a student at the Akademie der Schönen Künste" (Academy of fine Arts) in Munich in 1927. In 1934 she joined the Community of the Franciscan Nuns in their Convent in Siessen, near Saulgau in Württemberg as Sister Innocentia. There, as a Nun, in conventual peace, she created those Hummel paintings which have become renowned throughout the world. After years of intensive creative work she died in the Convent in Siessen on the 6th November 1946 at the age of 37.
Some of the originals of her pictures are still kept at the Convent at Siessen and, some are privately owned in Munich.
This Art Print is a faithful reproduction of the original Hummel picture.
