Johnson Brothers Pareek
Pattern Matlock
Creamer and saucer
Great Vintage Condition. While I can find no chips there are black spots and mars. I tried to capture these in my pictures. I think some are a result of the manufacture. See pictures and ask any questions.
Antique Johnson Bros Pareek England creamer and saucer dating to the 1920’s. I do not know if the saucer is part of the set. It is just how I found these items.
The pattern is similar to Royal Crown Derby “Traditional Imari” Pattern 2451. This Johnson Bros set would have appealed to people as a cheaper and more hardwearing alternative to the Royal Crown Derby set, being that it is made in semi-porcelain/ ironstone, (Pareek) with less gilt accents. It still would have been a very expensive set to own, when purchased.
My comment is that there are few examples of this pattern on the market.
History
Johnson Brothers was founded in 1883 in Stoke-on-Trent, England, by brothers Frederick and Alfred Johnson. The company became known for its "semi-porcelain" tableware, which combined the elegance of fine china with durability for everyday use. The "Pareek" line was a type of semi-porcelain or ironstone produced by Johnson Brothers. The company exported much of its tableware to the United States from the 1890s through the 1960s.
