This lovely pewter cuff is etched with detailed depictions of carnations. Carnations are the birth flower for January, and also symbolize love, faith, and purity - making this a gift with multiple meanings.
The company which produced this piece has quite a storied history. It went through a few different names before officially being founded in 1904 under the name Stieff Company. The Stieff Company changed hands several times, and survived until 1990. This cuff was created between 1979-1989, after the Stieff Company purchased their rival, S. Kirk & Son. As part of the purchase agreement, Stieff Company agreed to add the Kirk name to their name, becoming the Kirk-Stieff Company. As such, this cuff, and all jewelry and products made during this period bear a "Kirk" Makers Mark. The cuff has a width of 1", with a diameter of 2.5", which can be somewhat adjusted with a gentle pull to the sides. At the inside ends, there are a couple different markings. The left end reads, "Carnations," while the right bears the, "KirK PEWTER 900-1" stamp. The bracelet is in good condition (it is somewhat mis shapen), with a low shine and limited signs of wear. There are a few small surface level scratches, which is to be expected on a vintage pewter piece. (see photos). Otherwise, this bracelet is beautiful and ready to go to a good home.
