First edition of Byron's tragic narrative poem, Lara, published in conjunction with Samuel Rogers' Jacqueline. The first work composed after Byron abandoned the idea of giving up writing and buying back his copyrights, Lara is regarded by critics as a continuation of the autobiographical work begun in The Corsair. Unlike The Corsair, it was published anonymously, in conjunction with Samuel Rogers' Jacqueline.
Condition: Octavo (6.5” x 4”) original boards with gilt spine label. Gilt has been worn away on spine title. Bookplate and inked in “original owners name - Christ Church Belfast - 1816” on inside of front board. “By Lord Byron 1st ed.” written in pencil on first blank page. Front and back boards are detached along with first and last blank pages. Contents are clean and unmarked. Bit of foxing on front and back pages. Binding is good.
