...1987, artist signed
A gorgeous hand turned and painted wooden bowl in the traditional Rosemaling folk art of Norway. The inside has been painted with colourful flowers on a beige background and signed Solveig Verräs, the outer edge with written words in yellow against black.
"Sta kunneeg fara fil Telemark oglevaei sumarsfuna der gror def ryllikpaa stovetak og songar paa folkemunne anno 1987" (is what I think I could read)
"I could go to Telemark and live in a summer house where yarrow grows on the roof of the stove and sing folk songs in 1987" (is what Google translated it to)
The further outside of the bowl is fully covered in a rusty red. A beautiful colourful piece that would look great on any dinner table or side board. Useful as a fruit bowl or hallway catchall and wonderful to gift for a wedding or housewarming.
Condition: with marks of age and use, including some nicks and chips to the edges as pictured. I found no cracks or breaks - there is what looks like a break line on the bottom, but it is *underneath* the red colouring and would have been there when the item was made.
Size: ca 14.5" diameter (opening a touch smaller at 12 3/4"), it stands 5 1/4" tall (37 cm diameter at the widest point, 13.5 cm tall)
