Collections of folklore provide a happy hunting ground for those in search of suitable reading for young students of a foreign language, since the stories they contain, told as they were for less sophisticated generations than our own, are usually childish in appeal. At the same time many are made unsuitable by the grossness of the superstition that inspires them or the cruelty of the incidents or tha coarseness of their humour.
