Apple trees with intertwining branches.
The design is associated with May Morris' (William's daughter), "Fruit Garden" 1885 portiere (a type of curtain or wall hanging).
Inspired by her father's poem, "The Flowering Orchard" featuring the line, "And though the apple-boughs are bare".
The text on the scarf are snippets of poetry, "Lo waneth the Summer, the apple boughs fade
Yet fair still my garden twixt sunlight & shade".
In excellent pre-loved condition.
