The Canadian province of Alberta began issuing license plates in 1912.
In 1964, Alberta changed its license plate format to a six-digit series with dashes, such as "AB-12-34".
The province name "ALBERTA" and the year "1964" were positioned at the bottom of the plate and would alternate between the left and right sides in subsequent years.
Since 1992, only a single rear license plate has been required for vehicles in Alberta
