Critics called it a classic & it became her 5th consecutive Top-5 single on the USA Billboard Hot 100 & reached the top of the Dance charts. It hit #1 in Australia & the top-5 in Canada, Ireland, Japan, New Zealand, Spain & the UK. Madonna has performed the song only once, on The Virgin Tour in '85. The song was used on the soundtrack of the 3rd season of “Stranger Things”. Madonna's inspiration behind Into the Groove was the dance floor & she wrote it while watching a handsome Puerto Rican man, across her balcony. She decided to use it on the soundtrack of the film Desperately Seeking Susan. The lyrics are written as an invitation to dance her & carries sexual innuendos & undertones.
