This beautiful knife's centenary warrants a celebratory cake, don't you think? Made by the renowned silversmiths William Yates of Sheffield, England (company founded in 1750), it features a fancifully etched blade of silverplate (marked EPNS for silverplate and A for quality), a sterling ferrule (the piece between the blade and handle, also known as bolster I think), which is marked WY with the Sheffield crown and lion symbols and a lower case f (in a shape which confirms the year), and a bone handle. The knife length is about 10 inches in total and the blade is about 6 inches.
This knife is in truly excellent condition for its advanced age, with the only flaws being a line on each side of the handle, which may simply reflect the natural material from which it is made.
