Wolastoqiyik hand painted lidded woven basket made with ash and sweetgrass from the Nerepis River area in Grand Bay-Westfield , New Brunswick, Canada. This area was a seasonal home for Maliseet families. The basket was possibly used to hold sewing supplies or jewelry. • Circa early 1900s • Periwinkle or "curly" weave • 4" tall x 8" diameter • Handpainted in pink and blue • Includes a handwritten note and a newspaper page from the previous owner. The ring on the top of the lid has come off, but it is included and can be easily repaired. This is vintage and probably antique and so will have minor imperfections, but it is in very good overall condition with no broken curls.
